ray guy's thoughts??? bleach in my well?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Our well was 180 feet and we never had sulfur smell nor did we sterilize anything or filter it.
The well was dug 50 years prior to selling the house 08. A lot of times neighbors are welled
on the same underground Aquafer so check and see if any are having the same issues.
I am still at a loss in how you can sterilize a large underground water source such as an Aquafer
by dumping bleach in your well. If it is a huge underground source it would take
huge amounts of bleach.
I know when I watched them change my pump he pulled 180 feet of PVC line out to get to the pump.

Yea it can't be for the aquifer it is for the lines. I did more research, and it looks like most towns will recommend doing this in rural wells.
When my builder installed the well he put bleach in it and when you ran a garden hose you could smell it. He ran a hose back down the well to re-circulate it and then purged it out on the ground. You could really smell the bleach until it rinsed out of the lines.

I would ask a neighbor but it is a ways a way. The closest house is 1/2 a mile a way.

might want to spend the 30 bucks for a carbon water filter just for peace of mind for a few weeks after you fire the drip system back up. It can't hurt but it could save you one giant heartbreak
