He does look more plain, but look between the eyes and the tips of the disk that what made me think a casexi. But humerosa ould be my second choice.

Not Scobina or Castexi..

More like Humerosa or Orbignyi.. is it smooth backed?

I was thinking adult retic with a mature washed out pattern, but that tank only looks to be 18" wide and the retics don't lose their pattern until a few years into max size. Although the pointed snout on the disc tells me retic, the tail structure/pattern dosn't.. no flanges or striped pattern.. (yeah the long tail too but it could always be damaged)

Not sure what you mean by smooth back!

The pattern is a bit washed out, and hard to get good pic of.....from my browsing around best I could tell is scobina....but I'm no expert.....the rays back looks like a bass nesting ground, all circular nests...LOL

I jsut picked up the ray....and he was awefully skinny, and in bad shape, with the burn on his back also.....

The tank is a 220 24" wide, ray is 17-18" diam....like I said, his claspers are tiny, wondering if not mature yet....goood eye, he does have a pointed snout, and very long tail.....do retics get his big?

cheers

P. Scobina have a very different eye and spiracle shape.. if you study some of the other true Scobina from the european raykeepers, you will see what I mean. Not to mention, they max out at a 12-13" disc size, smallest ray.

Humerosa and Orbignyi are very similar, and you can differentiate the pattern by the small rough denticles on it's back (sandpaper vs. smooth)

and yes Retics can get much larger than that and some varieties lose their 'webbed' pattern when they become adults..
