The mantilla name gets thrown around and basically describes any ray that is a medium to dark brown with black marble like markings on their back. I know some of the species that get called mantilla are different than mine but what else do you call them? So until a super educated scientist names the individual species mine will be a good ole mantilla. Everyone I have seen are a darker brown. I do not know if you saw pics of yours when he was smaller but here is a pic of mine at 7" so you can see the pattern.
