Ray not eating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
She was still not eating this morning. Ive decided to take her out and put her in Q-tank with some salt (0.5%) and a bit higher temp. Lets see how she responds to that.
I just received 2 small books about rays from Amazon and after reading one, i found the following:

When rays place a defensive sting, the skin on the tip of the stinger might come off to allow the poison to do its job.

I first thought my ray was refreshing stinger but now, after reading this, i think this might be the case... Could this stress her so much?
Ive included a pic, check the white tip of stinger. Its not completely clear but first the whole stinger was dark and now the tip is white and it really looks like her skin came off.
Ive checked the other fish again but no signs of a poison attack or hole or whatshowever. Very strange...

any ideas?

Maybe the thing that she used her sting on is bothering her. Qing her was a good idea. If she is simply off her food she will be alright.

hi bro, she is still in q tank. im not at home atm but friday she wasnt eating. good thing: if she gets hungry, there are around 60 small carp in the tank...
im gonna up the temp a bit to 30-31 and keep doing frequent WC. lets hope she will get her act together again and stops this nonsense.

happy to help you.
First make sure all water parameters are good. make sure temp is at least 86 degrees 30 c. no less.
Keep the lights out and try to keep her by herself no other fish if you can. Feed live blackwors or very sall earthworms, you can also try ghost shimp on temp. basis.
Keep things warm and calm and on the darker side for awhile. Be cocnsistant in what you do and no suddon changes and whatever you do , do NOT mover her till she's eating well.
Make sure no amm or nitrite . Small more frequest water changes is the way to go.
Keep me posted, happy to help you in any way I can.

I've had rays go off their feed for no apparent reason before. I was able to entice them to eat again by offering them some cut raw squid. Squid can be tough so, cut it to the bite size of the ray. Good luck.

When i got home a bit earlier, she just passed away... when i arrived her eyes were still clear, skin was still good but not breathing anymore.
damn, this feels so ****ty, especially as i dont know what caused it...
