Ray Pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont have peruvian motoros I have columbian. Is there any difference between the two (growth)? I am very excited to get my pond, I think im going to try and get some marbles. The only problem is that I live in Canada and there arent alot of places to get good stingrays and ive never dealt with shipping any fish before (so i would prefer not to do it). I at the moment have a male columbian motoro and a sexed pair of retics. I will be selling the retics (If anyone is interested) and buying females (2). I already have talked to a guy near me who is keeping a motoro that hes had for a year (a female) in a 75 gallon tank. Im going to buy her off him (most likely, but ive never seen her so thats not a for sure thing bec she could be in bad shape) for $160. Which I think is a fair price because shes in her juvenile stage (as well as my male). Does anyone know of anywhere I could get a marble in my area for a reasonable price (ontario, canada) or in Michigan (bec im right along the border)?

I've got motoros in Troy (just north of Detroit). I'm not sure what paperwork you'd have to do to cross the border, but If you can work it out, I'm breeding motoros steadily.

oliver @ below water would be your best bet... he's good at shipping rays and fish..... a pair in that pond would be perfect though.... give you more time till you need to upgrade......

I've got 3 females about 4" across. 1 male about 4" across. And 1 Female about 8" across, but her tail was broken when born, above where the stinger would grow, so she does not have a stinger at all and never will. I've found that the females born here reach about 8" across in about 6 months. The 4" rays were born in January. The 8" female with the short tail was born in September. Feel free to call if you want.

Darcy-

I've got a number for Canadian customs.....they're closed now, but I'll call them tomorrow and find out what needs to be done to bring a ray across the border. From what I found online it looks like you just need to pay the tax for bringing it over, as long as it's not a restricted species, it should be no problem. They may require specific paperwork though, so I'll find out what they need and that way if you do decide to come over here, I'll know what to do.

I sent you a PM pat, hope to get a ray from you soon.
Also, how long would I need to have this pond set up before I can put my rays into it? I will be using 50% used water from my old tank and used bio-balls for the filter (from my other filter). I am also going to put 2 125gallon pump filters (used from the lfs I work at) in the pond and keep them there. As well as prime and some benifiting bacteria. How long do you think it'll take to get everything settled, and move my rays in? Im so Pumped :D!!!
Also not to go off topic, but I have a 125 gallon tank that I have found a person willing to buy it from me. It is glass, has a black polished (shiny) wooden stand. And a 30 gallon sump. How much should I be charging this guy that wants to buy the tank?

if using your old bio media you can add them right away after temp is stable.... i always added a pack of bio spira and would use seachems stability to keep any amonia or nitrite spikes from happening...

D'Arcy-

I responed to your pm.

I agree with Nic about adding the rays.

As for the 125 gallon, I'm just roughing it here, but the glass tank would be around 200 new, figure another 200 ish for the stand, and add some more for the sump, depending on how fancy it is. That give you your new cost, so figure probably about half that. I could be off on the pricing though, I haven't dealt in glass tanks in awhile.

Anyone else have a good idea on the 125 pricing?
