everything i've read has given me mixed reviews on this topic so figured i'd post a seperate topic to see what everyones advice is.

I'm using pool filter sand in my 225 and my motoro is comming in this saturday.. need to know if the pool filter sand is fine .. whos tried it and with what success?

I have never tried pool sand, have used the cleaned playground sand before, worked fine for the rays but is a pain for the filters and hard to keep clean in the depar parts of it.So i only do bare bottom now.

Do you expect to get different answers from those given in the thread started 13 days ago?

The same people that replied there are the ones most likely to reply here. If the reviews are mixed, which they are, you're not going to get a definitive answer - or if you do, you'll get two answers that think they're definitive but contradict each other.

It seems the takeaway from all the other threads is: You can try it, be prepared to remove it if the ray gets scratched up.

thanks. i didnt find then when searching through the ray section for some reason. but now after following that link ran into a link with people posting pics of their rays with pool filter sand. and it looks fine and they are all happy. thanks guys. im gonna go ahead and try it and i'll remove it if i see signs that the ray doesnt like it. (which would be what? noticing scratches on his bottom?)

another quick question instead of posting a new thread for it .. from what ive read experienced ray keepers say leave the tank lights off for a few days after placing a new ray in the tank. .. what about moon lights? still pretty dark .. and with a 30" height dulls the light on teh bottom an extra bit too. would he be fine with the moon lights on or still way better off with 0 light besides the light from my room?
