I have never kept rays, and probably won't anytime soon. They are illegal here in florida. However, I have seen freshwater atlantic stingrays for sale occasionally. Are those just SW rays acclimated to FW? What is your opinion on them?

my ideas exactly. But do they not do well? Die soon?

sounds risky

Those rays suck!. No personality at all. Very hard to keep alive, just die for no reason. Fresh? Brackish? Adult in full salt? Who knows.

sting rays are not that difficult to keep if you are conscientious about the water. The major cause of death is high pneumonia levels and pH levels being too high or low. I have had my sting rays for 2 years. They have outgrown my 150 gallon tank. I am looking for a good home with a huge tank....
