Plecos poop too much and I've had bad luck with prochilodus. What are my options for algae patrol in a monster comm?

Lots of water changes to keep nitrates down and a good scrubby pad. I have never had luck with plecos cleaning algae. Like you said, they poop more than they eat.

Long handled razor scraper. I scrape my tanks every other week or so. It takes a few minutes but it looks real nice.

Less light? More plants?

DIY algae scrubber..... Maybe it would be better to accept the fact it is going to grow, control where it grows, and use it to eat nitrate?

Less lighting is my key ingredient. Unless I am home all day the lights are on for only 4-5 hours in the evening and a couple of large water changes per week.

just curiuos how come nobody in this discusion has not talked about Uv sterilizers?Do they hurt the rays?

I want a fish to do the job. Algae isn't an issue but I'd rather have a solution before it ever becomes an issue. Not interested in algae scrapers or razor blades...I know all that.

Let me rephrase...what ray-safe fish eats algae?

Just do what I do, keep on buying FF until one fits in, might take you awhile but eventually you will get lucky!!!!
