ray still not eating.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I did the salt it did work on her fungus but she still won't eat. I don't want her in the main tank if I am medicating the tank. If she survives this week of meds and starts eating I will put her back in the main tank but divide her. I did split up my rays too. finally. I put two in my extra 80 for the time being till my new tank is finished. I decided to only build one that is 6 foot by 4 foot by 30 inches high it will be around 450 gallons. I do not have the time to really reinforce my floor right now for the 980 gallon one. I hope she does come out of this she is just an amazing looking ray.

Have you tried to force feed. If not get a turkey baster put the black worms in it and when she takes a breath shoot some into her gill. It might take a few days for her to get use to, I did that with my tiger ray after 6 days of not eating and just 2 days after the force feeding she went on a feeding frenzy. As for the fungus just keep up the water changes and salt.

no the fungus is gone it was clear the next day, but I will go out and get a turkey baster and try it tomorrow. I have seen black worms go it to her gills but it seems she just shots them right back out.

If its a new import then maybe it has a hook stuck in its gut. You cant really do much at that point but just wait to see if it coughs it up or it rotts away.

is the tub being kept pitch black???

^^What Nic asked^^

I had a new pup go about 8-9 days or so without eating anything. I kept lights off
and covered with blanket the whole time even during WC. I fed chopped up earth
worms 1/4" pieces in the dark, counted exactly how many pieces I threw in. I would
peak in with a flashlight every so often to see if I could catch here eating. Next morning (@ 4 am)
I would get up and scoop the uneaten food out. Finally on/after the 8th or
9th day I noticed a couple of pieces missing. This process continued up till about the
14th or 15th day. The whole time the amount eaten slowly increased. It has been
about a month now, blanket is off, lights on and she is eating like a champ.

It has a very dark tinted piece of glass on it so its almost pitch black should I put a blanket on it? She just went into the tub yesterday, so the rest of the time she was in the main tank.

so tomorrow will be about three weeks since she was imported so i guess itrs been three weeks since she ate. I think I saw her eat something today and there was a very dark green piece of poop in her tub. I had to move her back into the main tank today to because the ammonia was starting to rise to fast. she is blocked off from the other rays now too. I will keep medicating her for a few more day so hopefully she comes out of it soon.
