Update: The cichla is fine! It took a while for the swelling and bruising to subside. You could tell he was irritated, his colors were washed out and he wasnt eating as much.
This happened to someone else on the forum very recently. They said the black area got a little bigger, then stopped growing, then started getting smaller. Your pbass will be okay.
