Hi all, i need to make my tank look a bit more appealing to the eye, i recently got rid of nearly all my artificial plants as they were getting a bit tatty from the 2 severums i have.
I have 2 motoros which are the main concern so i want to plan the tank decor around them, i will be changing from natural sand to course black sand soon.
The only thing i cant decide on is the rest, i would like to keep the rocks i have as the rays like to search for food around them and push them about.
other tank mates are 2 young cichla ocellaris and 3 silver dollars, i will be getting a couple of silver aro in a few month also with a few more P bass.

Lets have some pics of your ray tanks and what they are like to give me some insperation.

try going in for a wider tank. you can try the amazon setup with a 3D wood background and brown / sand colored substrate instead of black. there's a member here with a 1500 gal (??? not sure of size) ray tank with such decor and its looks awesome. good luck.

I am myself using this fine gravel in this pic, which the rays love digging up. This kinda color would look great with a large piece of wood.

Now that looks ok sand mate, i think i am getting fed up with natural but yours has more a gravel colour to it, if you know what i mean, i am a bit cautiuos with bog wood and rays as i once used it and it worryed me with the sharp bits on it,, although i removed what i could it still bothered me, i have been lookig for a nice smooth piece but i think i am getting to cautious.

For my next tank (7x4x3) i am going to make a back ground for it, but not this one, the reason i am asking for ideas is so i can try them out on this smaller tank so i know what i want for the upgrade, dont want messing about to much with the decor in that tank.

Thanks for the ideas kida.

I used to have drift wood in my 6x2, mines taller though making it a 200 gallon. I don't have any pictures of it with the wood anymore, had to many rays in there so I took all the drift wood out in favor of more surface area. You can see the tank with the wood on this video, there is a good shot of the entire tank at the end.

I used Torpedo Beach for the sand and ran airlines under it, some of which the rays dug up. One trick to get them to not dig up the airlines is to but them under your decor like I did with some of mine, also creates a nice effect with the bubbles rising up from the cracks and holes in the drift wood.

This what it was like when i first set it up

then this, without the cetral rocks

It did have an air stone under the wood but the pump give up and i havnt got around to replacing it.

By the looks i will be ok with more wood again from what you guys are doing. Was looking into bamboo sticking up here and there, but its not all thatnatural which i what i would like it to look.
