Hi fellow rays keepers, anyone having flowers or any other rays agression problem like i do. Don't get the wrong Impression about flower rays. Yes they're cute and shy at first but wait until they get settle in. My male from last march is such a bully toward my female during feeding time even when it not and he thinks it is he go over and start harassing her. He climb all over her and start digging on top of her to see if she has any food. Most the time if she doe have something in her mouth she get scared and drop it. She then dart off with the male still on her back trying to get away. I tired of this aggression behavior so put the male in times out. I had to separate him and put him in a tank all by himself. I don't want to risk my other flowers health or even death.
Flowers love to bite I feel lucky that my flowers stop biteing each other awhile back.

It happens I think even with other rays not just flowers but i have noticed flowers bite more then others and I have had a pair that got along well with each other and other rays i guess its just the ray is he bigger then her or is she bigger then him ?

The female is way bigger and thicker. He's pushing 10" my female is pushing 13", he just all over the place curious and stressing her out more and more. She losing her appetite. I have wait on her and hand feed her so she can get her portion. This male flower is on a level of his own. He's bullet proof I can do a 75% water change and put him in a new environment and he will still eat, he's such a pig but I'm glad he adapted so well.

I feel your pain. I am working on a separate enclosure to keep mine away from all other rays and by themselves. Mine are still small and are leaving some nasty bite marks on each other.

Yeah FishDog, i had a good time catching him and transferrin him. What you have in mind for building a separate enclosure?

I found some large black tubs that have a flat bottom that are around 50 gallons. I am going to put foam pipe insulation around the top and cut some holes in the sides for water flow and float them in my 750 gallon pond/tank. Each one will have it's own bubble disk to keep the water moving and oxygenated for them. They are in with my marbles and biting the crap out of them as well. My rays in my 750 are way to large so i don't feel that comfortable putting them in there. This way I can power feed them and they will be by themselves so they have nothing to bite. Once around 10" i will release them. The water in my 750 is 30 inches deep and these tubs are only 14" deep so they will be 16" off the bottom of the tank

That's a good idea, something has to give or we will really have big problems in the future when they're adults.

I am hoping their aggression goes down with age. I tried to video my male flower trying to rip the nose off of my female marble last night but he would stop when I got close. He was on her back and you could see him yanking back and pull the front of her disk up. Little bullies for sure
