Ok so im looking into a bigger tank and am considering acrylic. Ive only ever had glass but because of weight among other things im looking into acrylic. I guess my question here is what kind of damage will a ray do to acrylic? Are the sides gonna look terrible after 2wks of my ray swimming up and down the walls all day?

I have never heard of rays damaging acrylic. I have 2 acrylic tanks with rays in them for a long time, they acrylic looks just fine. One of them had an 18" marble swimming up the walls all day and it looks good as new.

where u get your tanks made?

my tanks are scratched to heck. rays slide all over the walls and even try to bite the acrylic srcratching the crap out of it....

I expect the difference between the posts may be a sandy bottom?

If you want a pristine tank then go glass just in case, especially if you are having sand in the tank....if you are feeling rich then look at opti White as it is very clear.

I expect there are different qualities or hardnesses of acrylic.

My pearl male does bite the glass with a sucking sound when he wants to be fed so I could imagine that this could scratch a base with sand, I think he may have scratched my glass base but the main panes are completely scratch free after a year.

Yeah my guess would be its more a question of sand, and if the sand sticks to the rays bottoms. The one with the 18" marble is a tenecor, not sure where the other one came from as I got it second hand. Both tanks have sand in them but it doesn't stick to the rays disks, if they where swimming up the walls with sand under there disks I could definitely see that doing a number on the acrylic.

My rays in my 6x6 do bite at the acrylic when they see me, there way of demanding food I would guess, but they don't damage it.
