Has anyone ever kept rays and bala sharks together.. I have a pair of 5" bala's in my wifes community tank. Think they are getting to big for the other fish in that tank, so trying to decided were to put them. I have several other tanks I could use, but thinking of putting them in with two of my Motoro rays, that also has 2 good size silver dollars and one aro in the tank with them.. 250g tank
Any thoughts on this???

i think it would be fine, had some same size with my rays at one time. only problem i could see is if a ray alrdy gets injured and the balas could pick on it an make injury worse. have heard of other peaceful fish picking on wounds of rays. but if the rays are 100% i dont see a problem at all. just my 2 cents

My big female motoro cloaked and killed 3 good sized balas, like 8-10 inchers.....chewed their heads off...motoros will kill fish they can pin down....

I have a gator gar with my rays right now,
anything is possible it just depends on the particular fish in my opinion.

wow...never heard of rays cloaking and pinning down before.. o.o
i would have figured the bala's would GTFO the way..

I have a 6 inch disk motoro ray, and there are five, 2 inch balas sharks in there. He hasn't bothered them so far. However my Australian rainbowfish and my giant danios all started nipping at the ray's tail (strange fish...) So, now the rainbows and danios are in a 40 gallon with my corydoras, but anyways my ray seems to do fine with the balas, but I do feed him quite a lot. :naughty:

I keep Bala Sharks with rays and have no trouble at all. They go very well together and look nice. The Bala Sharks grow quickly because they tend to like all the food the rays like.

Carefull, my rays still oke until 12 inch diameter, after that, I lose a lot of 4-6 inch loachs, red flag tail, silver dollars.
