rays and p.bass

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for feedback..I think im just unlucky .as this bass just seems to like going for the eyes. I will be moving on the bass today. Dont think I want to risk it.
Im sure if my rays were 16 inch or bigger. .. it would probably be the bass in trouble.

Yargnits- these are orinocensus. And im 99% certain if you get some theyll be fine. Just dont buy my ones if you see them on ac for sale.
As you can see...from the feed back... its a great looking ans safe combo. Infact some posts state their bass get killed by the rays.

Bummer bro, it would have been good to have you on the cichla side of the house to.

Is the bass attacking the blacks?

The bass are gone and it was good to move them I think

With any fish you may get a rogue

Just out of interest the ones of you who do this mix do you keep more than two I only ask because maybe larger number make them more interested in each other than other fish

Haychinnook. .. arh well... dipped my toes into the cichla pond ... briefly... they are a truely stunning fish...;)

The bigger bass went for my bd and my p13xp14 . Both female at 12 inch...

The smaller bass didnt even go near the rays..
I took them to a friend who sold them today.

You know... ill probably give it ago some time in the future. You never know.

All is hood Ade....dats, rays and bass is the top of the line fish for me. Nothing can replace them. Its good to have the three of them in one tank. Its amazing sight.

Hey Ade, i know you've now got rid of the Orino, i didn't spot this thread before though, i know it's a bit of a mute point now but none the less i'll share my experiences for anyone else considering the combo.

I've had bass for some time, a couple of years ago i got a pair of motoro in with them at around 10" disc size, the bass ranged from 8" to 12".
It was just dreadful, they never touched the male but the female would always get harassed, not so much with the eyes but the disc itself.
They made a right mess of her and this is the result of her disc, i physically had to purchase a tank just to move her out of harms way as no one would have her from me due to her condition (which i understand)

SDC14819.JPG

She never made a recovery from this, she would rarely eat which is why she looks so thin and eventually just wasted away and died.

Last year i considered getting some rays again, i was quite cautious but eventually talked myself into it, these were to go in with the same bass as before but now in a large tank, the bass were obviously larger but so were the size of the ray i was trying.

I introduced them and they've never had any grief, the female was probably around 12"/13" and the male probably around 15".
My smallest peacock bass is probably my Azul at 12" and my largest are my two Temensis at 24" and 26".
Not a single bass has ever looked at the rays whether they're gliding mid water, swim and land on the basses head or swim up the front glass.

I think you certainly do get a rogue character in every fish, i've had this too in cichla and it's quite true that Orino are fiesty.

Richard are you looking at getting some bass now? would make your tank very interesting :)

Combo has worked for others numerous times.
But....orino's are some mean sob's!
I would sell the trouble maker and add some kelberi in its place.

Well...now that ive seen you sold...hope to see you come back.
Next time try some kelberi or azuls....or anything other than orino's.
But I think you just got the mean guy of the bunch. Orino's can be punks.
Lots of hot bass to be had now....and that combo sure is a good one.
