Rays for a 125?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Afraid not. Even smaller species such as hystrix and retic will eventually need more room. 125s are pretty narrow tanks.

Does something like this exist? Are there rays that stay small enough for a 125G for life.

A member on here I won't mention figured a 150 gallon was big enough for 6 stingrays in the past and now he figures it's okay to have a group of rays in a 125 gallon. So I imagine you are good to go if you want stunted rays. I can't wait to see how the rays turn out in these small tanks. I know a lfs that has kept 4-Thousand island leos in a 150 gallon tank for the last 2 1/2yrs and they are only about 6" to 7". In 2 1/2yrs these rays should have been 2 to 2 1/2 times the size they are now. Their excuse is they didn't want them to grow big! Well they achieved that at the price of the stingrays not fully developing in sex and pattern. They want $1900 each so no one has bought them over that time period.
The norm is to have a big enough tank in place first before you buy the rays, not the other way around.

THE HORROR! we need to find this person and :banhim:

what an outrage!

From what Ive gathered from extensive research on stingray husbandry, the minimum aquarium size for reticulated and hystrix (which are the smallest) is 180 gallons!!! Alot of people on this site would argue that even thats too small, and I respect theyre opinion... But fact is, you can actually keep the two species I mentioned in a 180g..

Agreed! Let's not beat around the bush, we need to take action. Maybe the state officer above can arrest this person. We need a name!!!
