WOW 8 years with a tank nearly exactly like this but without the overflows mine just have exposed bulk heads and never had a single incident.

your lucky. i have rocks on my tank lids because my hystrix has pushed the lids open 3 times.

Would deff need lids. My rays like to swim upside down on the top of the tank. If i didnt have good lids they would be on the floor in a second

I agree I put 1/2 inch thick acrylic tops on my pond. My rays almost jump out ever time they see me open the tops up.

youll be fine, more than likely. click the link in my sig and see my open top tank. haf a flower and a big motoro pair in there with no issues what so ever.

I just lost a beautiful bdxleo who jumped out of a pup tank that wasn't completely covered. Do yourself a favor and find a way to cover it.

My rays also swim at the tops of the tank and cruise the outside edges but have never even acted like flipping out of there. The lip around the outside is about 6 inches and I run my water about 2 inches from the top......
