Yeah, I do have interest in saltwater rays. Not too fond of the atlantic rays. There's an e-mail address on Texas Parks and Wildlife website to get more info. on obtaining an exotic pets license. I looked into this when I wanted piranhas. You have to have contingency planning for water changes and such. Pretty much just like obtaining a gun dealers license from the ATF. At anytime they may come in and search your home. It's retarded if you ask me. Texas has much worse things to worry about, but I guess im stuck here so I'll deal with it and look into some saltwater rays. Thanks guys for y'alls help.

If all you need is a contigency plan I say go for it. Document what you do and encourage others to do the same. They are worth the trouble. Although the SW blue spot ray is very nice, but they say not long lived?

It's a lot more than that, those are just a few things I could remember off the top of my head. I may give it a shot though. If I do I will keep updated. Yes, the blue spots are eye candy, haven't looked into life expectancy for them. My lfs had them once, and some how I didn't end up getting one. I think having crushed coral as a sub, and didn't want to risk scraping its belly and getting and infection had something to do with it, and meh changing sub is a lot of work and I'd hate to tear apart my SW now that I've got it how I like it. Maybe when I can find a 300gallon......

Texas won't issue a permit to a private owner. Sorry.
Atlantics aren't long term FW animals, do some searching on the topic of osmoregulation in marine vs freshwater fish for more details on why.

Why are people so scared of doing saltwater rays? Cortez, Yellow, Round and Atlantic rays all stay fairly small and are great rays for home size aquariums.

I just think that its the idea of an advanced FW fish in an advanced system like SW, or at least thats how its made to look.
