Rays on a budget- My (somewhat long) story w/pics

I'm not sure on the hook size, I havn't seen it personally. Maybe I'll ask him to send it with her as a souveneir, assuming she is ok. I do expect her to be ok...but It's been a couple days since I checked in on her.

That is very helpful advice about the strainer. I do see that these tumblers will be a P.I.T.A., especially on a large scale. I also think that the ones I bought are either too big, or need more eggs to work properly. I cannot get the eggs from this one small female to tumble evenly...but so far they look ok. There are a few dead ones in there for whatever reason, but the Methyl blue and all the airstones seem to be working to keep the rest of them ok.

I did have one problem. Last night I returned from the races and found that the airline to the tumbler had popped off the air pump. I hooked it back up, so hopefully they are still ok.

Since this female was just a random spawn that I didn't expect, it was a good time to experiment with the tumbler. The last hatch consisted of 3 larger females, so that wouldn't have been the time to try something new.

Ok...no Photobucket or anything, but I remembered I put this pic up on a different site.

cant see the pic sorry mike, the strainer idea sounds like it would work really well on a larger scale. maybe get one really long narrow tank and do it that way

The picture thing is driving me nuts. I thought it would be fixed by now, so I havn't taken time to do it another way...

I may get time to mess with it later today, but right now I have too much that I need to get done.

its chill man take your time no rush

This is an amazing thing to see. The eggs in the tumbler are getting little tiny appendages that looked like something hairy. I took a closer look with a flashlight, and they are little itty bitty tiny bodies and tails. Wow!

Aslo, today while mowing the lawn, I found an Eastern Milk snake. They are cool as heck. Quite a bit more aggressive than a garter snake, but it was fun to catch and freak everyone out with. Got some great pics before I set it free in the same spot that I found it.

sounds like your first try is doing good with the tumbler. also i think its funny that alot of us turn into little kids when we see a snake and just have to catch it lol. but now we let it back go without being told to.

cant wait to see the pics of that snake, a pair of frogs just spawned in my parents pond and i grabbed a couple of tadpoles and threw em in a 10 gallon to see what would happen, cnt wait to see em sprout legs. A couple being 20 of the 500 or so in the pond

I got presents today and yesterday, and Friday too actually...

I got a $99 525gph ebay filter for the 150g, and a 350gph ebay filter by the same brand for a 75g breeding tank. They are both the same, but it's funny how the boxes differ. The larger one has a GRECH (green ecology home) label, or brand, and the smaller one is labeled SunSun.

Both of them are larger than their competitors, and so far I think they are better overall. FOr failure rate, I don't know, but I could replace the large one 3 times for the price of an FX5----- Thanks for the advice on that Jeffers!!!

Mike

lol no problem im happy with my 525gph its been running non stop for prolly 6 months now or something with no problems. blows away a rena xp3 and xp4 and the rena smart heaters still hook up to the sunsun. i was always unsure about these cheaper filters till someone told me they had one for a year no problems and its still running without any. oh also i got the one with the uv light on it and it just burnt out so 6 months of uv time on $5 light. the thing with the uv light though is its a small one but every little bit helps.
