Looks like it has K1 media in it, these are getting popular, it's about half full of media. There is am airstone bubbler type thing in there which keeps everything moving. Once BB grows on the media it doesn't float or sink (flinks), water is pumped through the drum. This is a very effecitve bio filtration.

It's like a fludized bed filter with larger media.
 
Thanks Epond...That is exactly how they work.

The reasons why they are so much better than other methods are that 1- there are no dead spots. Oxygen and water flow around every piece of Media. and for 2- Asas the bacteia dies off, it goes away and gets broken down just like everything else..so there's no maintenance, no die-offs to cause ammonia spikes, and the Bacteria colony is so healthy that it is able to reaact very quickly to increased bio-loads.

Yep..It's K1...I think there might be something better...but at twice the cost, not for me to experiment. The air mixing with this neutrally boyant media causes it to evenly tumble as well as aerating the water....

ah ok gotcha, yea ive been thinking about incorporating some K1 into the sump i plan on building, seems like its becoming more and more popular
 
Often there are things that take years to erode and get sucked away from us, which take a very short time to identify and want back once the situation goes through the proper changes.

I never really understood why thinigs I always loved, just didn't interest me anymore. But now I know. These things are coming back...

And when I sit and think about the things I can do...I realize how truely unlimited I really am. I can do anything I want.

It's time. It's gonna get ugly around here...people are going to have nightmares....I'm gonna love it.

Everything is going quite well today. Still getting the tanks set up and all that, but I'm pretty happy about all that is going right now.

I should have some pups in a few weeks. One of these girls is eating motre than the other 8...so she must be doing well...lol.

I can't wait.

I know...sorry for the lack of response. I've had a few things on my plate lately....it's officially "crunch-time"
