Rays on a budget- My (somewhat long) story w/pics

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks everyone!

She's getting a little darker, and she's already a bit bigger.

I killed my worm farm...moved it outside for a couple days while cleaning, and it rained and they all drown, or left...

So I've been tipping rocks, and now it's a bit hot and dry, so I had to buy a container of worms for her...

Everyting else is going great. My 3 cubic feet of scrubbies are on the truck for delivery, and I ordered some floating plants for the upper tank that should ship today.

Sounds like your worm farm needs a roof! Sucks that you lost it, but its easy enough to re-start.

On the topic of rays, whats the smallest full grown ray species? I'd love to have one, but I'm worried that 72" x 18" is not enough 'real-estate' in the bottom of my 150 for one to be happy.

Reticulated, Scobina, Hystrix, and P14's all max out around 18" if my info is correct. My first 3 rays came out of a tank that size...so it's "do-able" but they weren't nearly as comfotable as they should have been.

Scrubbies! Havn't divided them off the way I want them yet, but they're in there...580 of them. Ain't they purdy?

I scooped the pup back out in the same dish and set her in the same position as a week ago...but the pics turned out grainy as heck for some reason. I'll re-try another day...she doesn't like it much.

Lots of bio media is always a good thing!

On you camera, is the ISO set high or to auto, if you can turn down the ISO the picture should be less grainy, just need more light

I'll check it...my wife always has it set...she takes pics at the racetrack.

We also need a faster lens. the f3.6-5.4 isn't very helpful for fish pics either... there's a cheap 50mm f1.8 lens that I want...but money is money...

I managed to get some "salvageable" pics of the pup. A little fixing up, brightening, and color balance made these turn out like what she actually looks like....lol.

She's getting much bigger. She pretty much eats all day and night. About 30 Tilapia fry disappeared last night after lights out.... She could take bigger than the tiny little fry, but I only have what I have.... she's up to 2 giant crawlers per day + snacks of fry when I can spare them.

She's getting some new spots that don't show in the pics just yet, and the other spots are reall getting brighter. She has a pair of "headlights"...lol...and the little spot on the front of her disc is starting to "Eclipse" (I think).

Here she is...Partying...and eating. Her 2 favorite things!
