Rays on a budget- My (somewhat long) story w/pics

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Is there any chance we can have a pictured update on everything? I think alot of us have been follow this a long time. I'd love to see an update of the whole tank room setup, ray tanks, and breeding tanks.

You've put so much into this, and everyone following this thread has pulling so hard for you. I mean, I know I haven't contributed any $, but just by the amount of time I've spent re-reading this thread I feel I've invested so much time in your project. I would love having a update so we can compare "then and now".

+1!!

Very true... Everyone reading this is major motivation for me, and I also feel like we're all on the same boat together in a way.

I promise I will go back through and bring everything up to date really soon. I have (I know, I keep saying) a few minor things to button up, and then I need to clean up all the construction debris that I keep leaving behind.

Every time I think I'm getting caught up, something else goes wrong. The sump pump broke last week, and now I'm back to carrying bucket after bucket up the stairs.

I'm also working out the final details of the rRays that I keep everyone waiting on. Initially I changed my mind about what I wanted a whole bunch of times, and now I finally decided on something that isn't really very easy to get....and right at the last minute, I'm frantically trying to get a guy to come bid on some Walnut trees at my house. I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner, but I'm hoping to "up my order"...

Anyone know timber prices?

I'll be posting an ad fairly soon for the female pup. If anyone following is interested, let me know.

Also, I have decided to go ahead and sell the pair of Blue and Gold Macaws. It will be a long time before I can make a display setup, and when I do, our Greenwing Macaw will be with us forever...

Thanks!

Mike

great thread clearwater, its nice to see someone doing a great job on a normal budget, still alot of money and time invested. after 20 years of keeping fish im just about to get my first rays so il keep reading and following, keep up the good work

hey mike, sorry its been so long, i just got a new apt and have yet to get the internet in it, im using my parents internet. I finallyu got permission from my g/f to get a ray so i was wondering how much you might be looking for , for one of your smaller rays. glad to see everythings working out and that your still with it. cant wait to get back on this site and get up to date with everything

Well, this Female pup could be yours at a great price....but the females get larger than the males.

I'll have another litter in a couple weeks also. Could be something in that litter that is real nice.

Good deal on the Apartment, things must be going ok!

Mike

Mike I have been following but have not posted much. I want to say congrats on getting the pup to stay alive and having more on the way. keep up the good work.

Yeah, I've been slacking on the updates for sure!

Things are going well, the little female ray just ate her first non-worm meal. She pounced all over some chopped up yellow perch, and I've been tossing in some little Tilapia here and there that seem to come up missing...

I sorted through some of the White Tilapia and tossed a couple of the runts into the main ray tank. I missed it...they were there for maybe 18 hours or so.

I put 6 of the White Tilapia in with the baby ray also. Aside from pooping in there, they are very beautiful fish. I'll get some pics up tomorrow. The little ray seems to enjoy the company. She's been very playful with them. They are about the same size as her disc, so it's a perfect match. I mainly did it because the Whites are getting a little crowded in the 150g.
