Was wondering how many of you are currently using or have used purigen in the past. Feel free to post your experiences

I am currently running it and like it. It makes for some crystal clear water although I am not sure what if any effect it is having on my Nitrates

opps I got a little e happy with the poll title lol

I used it and liked it, but i only used it in emergencies. i would never keep it in all the time. However i would keep chemi pure in a ocean clear either on half my return or on its own pump cycling through my sump.

What is the difference between chemi pure and purigen in your experience. I was considering trying chemi pure but I was put off by the statement that it will balance your ph

I probably run purigen every third week for about a week before it is spent, I like to give it a lot of time after recharge because using bleach makes me nervous

I just ordered some this morning. Curious to see what others say... I'll be back to vote after I've tried it out.

I'm open to a sales pitch!

But as someone who believes firmly in KISS I really don't understand what it is, what it does, or why I should spend any $ on it. From what I DO know of it, is it not just a bandaid for improperly maintained or designed systems?

Right now I view it the same as FX5s. Won't be found anywhere in my house.

+1 for snake oil.

I'm of the less is more belief. But I've heard nothing but positive things about purigen from past co-workers and customers. so I'de def give it a try if I ran into water issues.

Currently using it for small tank (Non-ray) and happy but "recharging" it makes me nervous....

IMHO - Should NOT be necessary at all if tank is well balanced and maintained.

I agree with db junkie, I do not see the point unless you have a problem you cannot fix and generally some decent maintenance will do the job. Recharging is a pain and bleach is not something I want to work with, especially with it in connection with my fish.

I only have used it (or non-rechargable Polyfilter) in tanks with fish that don't like ANY nitratres...

Matt

Good point, it could be used as a protector, in case nitrates might rise. I like the poly filters but found that they were exhausted very quickly in high nitrate (rift lake cichlids) environments but I like what else they do.
