Hello mfkeepers,

After reading and reviewing a lot about rays, I'm just more confused. My LFS is offering me either motoros or "teacups" but no picture, or anything I would have to pay a deposit then when the Ray gets here I can take it which if I don't really know if it's good idea.

I've posting and asking around here, and I see in the sticky of rays profile that motoros get up to 30" but I was talking to someone here and he said he has marbled motoros that get only 9" inches. Also he mentioned something about Peruvian and Colombian motoros where one is bigger than the other.

Can someone shed some light here about breed, why is a marble motoro 600 and a regular motor 100?

How big will a marble motoro get?

All those rays I see here, they are hybrids, like dad leopoldi and mom motoro? And those how big do they get.

Thanks!

Hybrids usually inherit the size of their parents. So if there's a big parent, it'll probably be big. Motoro's and Leopold's both get 30"+
Marble motoro's are a higher price because there is more demand and they are considered less common. The average price of a marble motoro actually is closer to $300-600 depending on size and quality. Not all marbled motoros stay small. Unless you see the parents, you probably won't be able to tell what size the offspring will reach.

Guerrero Guerrero there are a lot of moving parts here. I recommend you hold off until you know what you want. How big is your tank? That will be a good start as to what you can handle. If your goal is to get a ray that is of manageable size get a male. Males tend to stay a fair bit smaller than females. Look at some pics of what you like in a Ray and then consider finding someone that either breeds them or imports them. Often times I find that fish stores just don't know as much about them. They are more an oddity for them then their usual stock.

Be forewarned that wild caught rays from sources that aren't reputable can be difficult.

Rays like any other fish have different species that have different price tags. Not all rays are the same so know what your getting yourself into. Your motoro question was a good example of that.
