Would a acrylic tank, setup with sand and a few rays develop scratches? I have a tank setup in NJ and it looks like it is developing alot of scratches toward the top of the tank. All the sratches follow the same direction (diagnal) from the left to right.
I was thinking that the rays may be draging the sand up the sides when they climb up the tank.
Or could this be due to stress on the panel? It's a Tenecor 450g.

Any opinions?

could be the sand. After enough "rubbing" between the rays an sand, I am sure you'll see some scratches

There seems to be alot more in just a week or so. While I was there, I only noticed one ray that would climb up the sides of the tank. Its hard for me to belive that one ray could be creating all the scratches and for them to be all one direction.

you wont see any scratches i guarantee it

you will only see them when the tank is drained and dry

i dont see how the sand would get on the acrylic as the ray climbs anyways

ray dont drag themselves onto the glass for the substrate they have to swim, the water movement they create while donig this should knock off an excess sand they may carry on themselves

The sand temporarily sticks to the bottom of my rays and you can see it as it runs up the glass. Eventually after enough cruising around the sand shakes off but with my sand at least, it sticks for a little bit and I can see the sand WOULD scratch the glass but this is an opinion of mine and no guarantee, LOL

I'll try to get some pics emailed to me to post them. I also need the pics to send to Tenecor to see if it could be stress fractures.
It's funny, I called the distributor I purchaced the tank from. He called Tenecor and was told that might be from the solvent that they use to glue the panels together.
WTF!!! If thats the case I want a new tank!!!
I have seen other acrylic tanks before, and none of them had these type of scratches.
