Rays & Sand = Scratched Acrylic?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have rays with sand in both my 480's and have noticed no scratching at all. I believe it could occur, but would guess what you are dealing with is some type of stress cracking, especially if all scratches run in the same direction. I can't see rays scratching acrylic in only one direction.

Stress cracks could be from an unlevel tank or from poor quality acrylic. If it's the acrylic, I'd complain to Tenecor. I had a 300 gallon from that at one time and they are not cheap. A 450 must of cost a lot and should be developing cracks.

Good Luck.

The tank is level as it can get. We posponed filling it a few weeks to get it leveled before we filled it so nothing like this would happen.:swear:

same thing happened to me when i got my first 180

my dad had noticable scratches from its manufacturing

he was pissed, didnt bother me though, i still think he over reacted :screwy:

I set it up about the same time I setup my 600g here. They were ordered together and setup only for about a month.
The 600 is setup and I never really noticed any scratches on mine. I'll have to go and check.

i also have a acrylic tank with rays and mines also have tiny scratches in it, but my tank is bare....i always thought it was from the stinger or the sharp spikes on the tale

How are you cleaning the glass near the bottom you may be doing it, and yes rays can scratch when climbing they scratched my glass tank so they will scratch acrylic ..

Sand...it must be the rays...A few guys over here use gravel with acrylic tanks for this reason.
