Are these guys 100% aquatic? Lets use a Fly River Turtle as an example on 100% aquatic or do they need to "Bask"?

If im not mistaken, they are described a lot like FRT's because they are a community turtle and can be housed with fish n no problems

My biggest Q is if they need to Bask, Thanks ;-)

They will be fine if they don't bask, they don't need to bask. These guys are bottom-walkers. All they need is some decorations such as driftwood, or fake/live plants so they can get up easily to get air.

HOLLY CRAP... I get faster responces at 2am...LOL

I was doing a lil digging on these guys just now.... VERY TEMPTING INDEED!

how do u think they will be in a 300gl 8'x30"x2' (LxWxH)?
Also... I read that aquatic turtles can Bask underwater with UV lights.... Are T5 lights considered UV lights? They are bright as hell... they are turning some of my plants yellow. Its a 4foot light with 4 T5s a total of 220 bright watts

Man, Im thinking hard on these... like multiple PCs. HHHmmmmm

Whats your zipcode (Pls be far...LMAO ;-) )

My zip is 91733.

All they would need is one uv light, thats pretty much it. Thats a lot of lights, lol. They would be at the bottom anyways most of the time. 2' deep...you can always give it a try, just make sure you have plenty of decor, plenty of plants and driftwood. An adult, subadult, or juvie would be fine. You can always grow him up for a little bit in a rubbermaid or small tank.

I'll tell you what though, your tank would be awesome with a couple of razorbacks. They are really active turtles, and in a 300 gal, they would love it!

I've got to say that basking is completely dependent on the individual turtle, it is a common misconception that musk/mud's don't bask at all, and rookie owners will just believe that and not provide a basking dock at all. I've caught my musk basking a few times, though it's pretty rare and they don't bask as readily as some of the other species. Their is a creek near my house with a bunch of musk's and during the summer you can see dozens of them basking on a huge log, it is quite a sight. I would provide a basking dock and light, better they choose not to bask than not being able to bask.

Thanks for the feedback.

I am a newb to reptiles. When u say UV Light, is that a brighter light than T5s or Compact flourecent light? If it is not as bright, will my light system be to bright for them if they choose to bask?

Thanks

UV light such as the ones maid specifically for reptiles. Zoomed and a couple of other reptile companies make them. They come in tube flourescent bulbs and compact flourescents, the ones that screw into basking light dome fixtures. For musk turtles, the 5.0 would be good for a musk turtle.

That is true. Muds like land and basking way more than musks do. It is always better to provide a razorback musk a basking are, but it is not necessary in my own opinion.
