its with a bunch of dats and bichirs. There is a skim bar that I've seen it sit between that and the acrylic but usuually its on the bottom l gliding or burrowed

How big are your dats? And the skim bar is still in the water so no basking spot?

2.5 inch to 6.5 inch + a 11 inch Endlicheri bichir

the skimbaris sometimes above the water sometimes below. I don't think they ever really need to use it.
 
my razorback musks will sometimes hold onto the lockline returns to get some air and rest. They don't need a basking area.
