RBP and Tetra

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sorry to hear that man, hope things work out for you soon.
market is really tough now, good luck man.

back to OP's question, it could work either way, depends on your p's, the tetras you put in and your setup. petsmart has sale now on tetra at $1 each, so even they all get eaten it won't hurt your wallet so much.

Tetras didn't work in my tank. My 3 red bellies made 6 tetras dinner before the end of the day I put them in there lol. My guys live aloooone. Ate a pleco too.

Was that guy "JP"? I don't want to speak for him but i believe he tosses them in with rhoms. I'll sure he'll want to share his experience himself

PS. I just found out yesterday that i'm being laid off so if you see anyone in Oregon lookin for 6-7 inch (measured a couple yesterday) red bellies let me know.

I cant remember, I dont even remember if it was on this forum or a different one :D It may have been JP since he is on two different forums I look information up on.

probably not me, I don't add that many at a time. (some people adds hundreds at a time)
the most I've added to my pygo tank was 15 zebra danios and now after few weeks I have about 10 left.
just added 5 silver dollars, 5 columbian tetras and 5 neon tetras to my rhom tank few days ago, now I'm down to 3 silver dollars, 5 columbia tetras and 2 neon tetras.
if you have more plants and woods to provide hiding areas then the chance of success will be higher, IMO

I went to Petsmart today and got 10 cardinals and 10 glowlights. So far everything is cool. My P's just ignore them. I'll do a head count tm and see what it do. If they make it to next week, I'll go get some Neon's. @ballinouttacntrol... sorry to hear about the loss of your job, fam. I'll keep you posted tho if I know of anybody who might want your RBP's.

I don't see why people think it's impossible.

I've kept reds with barbs, sharks, cichlids, and guppies. As long as the reds are fed, they have no reason to chase down small snacks. Of course I fed beefheart daily.

Welll Well... So I woke up to half of my tetras gone. I guess they packed their things and left or the P's got em. My tank is moderately planted. Maybe if I had more dense plant coverage they would survive longer. It was a good try. Now I just have to listen to my wife cry for the tetra over the next week and life will be back to normal. My silver dollar are still hanging in there but I expect them to last as they have been part of the equation over the past year that I had my RBP's.

Your Piranhas sound awesome.

Cardinals are some expensive feeders, but like you say, lesson learned. Are you bored with a species tank? I quite like Piranha species tanks.

Also, it just occurred to me...

What size tank do you have and how many RBPs do you have? Tank size, hiding places and amount of feeding done are all important factors to give a chance here. Popping in a whole bunch of new fish in a comfy tank might have been too irresistible to pass up.

Again though, I really think you're rolling the dice best case scenario.

Either the zoo replaces those that get eaten(or possibly the tetras are breeding in the tank). Or the P's are well fed and don't think the little fish are worth their time.
