rbp idea

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would go with a single serra species. Reds are really freacking boring when they are solo. I have one solo rb that is waiting for the rest of my shoal to grow out to add him. And he is a dud... The group is more much interesting to watch and keep.

A 55 is pushing it also with most species except maybe sanchezi's or macs. I have a 7 inch elong in my 55 and trying to make room to get him in a 75 or larger soon. I feel bad keeping him in the 55 because of how small the depth is (12 inches).

Its also too small for a shoal of rbps or caribes, and definitely piraya.

A juvy rhom you could do for a while, but will need plans to upgrade down the line.

I would go with a small elong for it and give him open space to swim and skip the divider and a red.

I have a ~4" rhom in a 55g and the 12" width is looking smaller every time I look from the side (even when the rhom isn't getting any bigger). I wouldn't put more than one p's in a 55g, except maybe few rbps.
many fishes are kept in 5-10g tanks in lfs it can be done but doesn't mean it should be done. you'll be keeping the fishes for a long time (hopefully) so why not provide the most comfortable home that you can afford for them? but it is your tank and your fishes, you have the final call so do whatever you think is the BEST for your fishes. personally I wouldn't.

I'd go with 3-4 RBP's or Caribes, or a solo juvi rhom or elong in your 55. I wouldnt go with the divider idea, but just my opinion. Good luck and let us know what you decide.
