Hello,
Today 5 of my rbp have turned on the smallest one and chewed a big amount of flesh off one side of the it, they are all between 6-8inch been in the tank together since juvenile this one has always been the smallest and generally spends most the time hiding away.
Question is . . . the injuries are pretty bad probably half way through the top part of body 2-3inch in diameter, it’s gills are still going and is now starting to swim a little in a smaller tank I have, I’m wondering if damage is to bad to survive and if I am being cruel hoping it will recover. I will try get some pics.
thanks

Seen some bad fish survive. Clean water and separate. Hope for the best.

Do you have pics? It would be easier to assess the damage that way.
Piranhas have incredible immune systems and healing abilities, so it is possible it can heal.
I’ve found that with any fish, it’s best to wait and see.

Sorry about the graphic picture, I’m really not sure what to do! They have recovered from chunks taken out of them in the past and no fighting in the tank for over 4 months until this today, this is much bigger than any previous injury.

I am really gutted as i have had these from the size of a 50p coin i would love for it to survive although don’t want to keep it alive if it will only be suffering. ?

If you don’t separate then it’ll be suffering. But it’s already done. Think there’s a chance for recovery. I’d dose some salt 1 tsp per g in the tank. How big is the tank?

I have separated into my little girls tank along with her mollys the tank is small only 25-35l water is perfect and I clean regularly I have already added salt to water and a few drops of some stress coat that came with the tank when we brought it. you think there might be a chance of survival?
