I walked into the room today and saw the tank and one of the Piranhas has been attacked pretty bad. Basically a good good amount of it has been torn off on the back, and its just the spine left holding on the tail. It is laying on its side, breathing and still alive.

Should I take it out and put it in a separate tank? Or do you think it's pretty much a goner?

Thanks,

Christos

I would say he's probably finished. without his tail he wont be able to swim away from more attacks.

His tail is still attached, but all of the flesh around it, is pretty much gone, well near the tail is gone, the tail is still fully there. He looks like a half Piranha with a backbone and tail.

if you have an other tank then I'd say take it out and see if he can make it. Piranha is pretty tough, there's chance that he may recove from this.
good luck

Alright, anything I need to put in the tank or do to make it easier? Medicine? I mean he is laying on his side, I don't see how he is going eat or anything.

Piranha's can recover from some very nasty wounds------As long as internal organs are not damaged-It should make a full recovery if given the right conditions---

A temp tank to place it in would be great-
Melafix/pimafix combo with salt and rasie temps will do it good....

use water from the old tank and maybe some of the old filter media so you don't have to cycle the new tank. or use some beneficial bacterial supplement such as Seachem Stability. Add some aquarium salt, pump more oxygen in the tank, maybe up the temperature a little to like 80-82deg. and hope for the best. how big is the rbp? it will probaby be fine for not eating for few days.
Good luck with it.
