Some RB's can be spoiled on live food but they always come around and eat non-live once they get hungry enough. You'll find that pellets are cheaper and easier than live and don't foul the water as much. I feed New Life Spectrum floating large carnivore pellets as a staple and they all love it.

i was asking on another thread if anyone used NLS. I was having a hard time finding them in large enough size but i'll try the ones you're using. does it leave residue in the water though? Alot of the cichlids sticks do and mine will no longer eat the hikari pellets.

No it doesn't cloud the water, or swell and break up like the Hikari does(I always hated that about the Hikari) The fish really like it. They go after the NLS with more excitement than the Hikari. It is a little more expensive but I saw a marked difference in their color and behavior after I switched to NLS.

The Bluegills have been removed. One bluegill has lost its tail and eye in a feeding frenzy. The RBP's have completely healed from their self inflicted wounds and are still eating great for me without their B.G. tank mates. I am exercising extremely slow movement around the tank, and they now seem reasonably comfortable with me around.

With the exception of the loss of a B.G. I would have to chalk the experience up as a complete success.

Looks like I am going to keep these monsters after all!
