I have had by P's for the last year and just experienced this yeseterday. Found just the head one of my P's. They are all adult size. I wonder what triggered this. They are always well fed.

A number of aspects can trigger cannibalism all of a sudden. Normally it is easy to spot and recognise this trigger. It may be that you missed a feed, didn’t feed enough, overstocked, poor filtration. Or it may simply be a change of dominance in the shoal, in which one died in the battle.

Got to agree with your there Bamapits. Never have i seen such drastic and major cannibalism. Buying a few extra if you are buying a young shoal is probably a good idea, but to lose 80% is extremely unusual. RuXPiN may well of had that situation, but he was really unlucky in which case.
Like said, they normally only go cannibalistic when young. And even then, they will only munch on their own if the victim is weak/disadvantaged or if they have missed a few meals.

whatever the reason is, dont even think about buying a new one. he'll be eaten as well. once adult they become more territorial and dont accept new comers as well as when juvenile
not true u can add more of the same size as long as u remove all piranha rearrange the tank and re introduce them at the same time there will not be any established territories they will be fine
