RCS infestation

60 in a 29? That's not an infestation. I probably have around 60 juvies in a 3.5 gallon. They will reproduce to maximum capacity if you allow them to!

well, if you do 50pct water changes weekly i know you can safely keep about 10 per gallon because i have. i also don't know if is why, but i noticed my rcs are much redder than any on this thread, and i do use black gravel and black slate in my aquarium. my tank was only black inside except a few plants till i spilled in a bit of white gravel.

I think I'll bite the bullet and snag some black gravel today and maybe try putting in some slate pieces for them. Thanks again for the tip. :)

A darker substrate will make the RCS darker red.

Put the dark gravel in last night. They seem to like it. I had 20 of them destroy an algae pellet when I dropped it in... They never did that before. So things are looking good. I'm keeping figures crossed they keep multiplying so I have "true" infestation. ;)

Just try not to overfeed them. I read that they should be fed every 3 days or so (assuming you don't have algae in your tank for them to eat). Overfeeding them can kill them, since they have to molt to accommodate their body mass.
