One more thing...wont heating up the temperature to 82 degrees just speed up the life cycle of the ich? Is that temp sufficient to destroy them?

I heard they can't survive temperatures of 82 degrees or higher that is why the temperature is raised.

Yeah I read just before that it needs to be 85-90 degrees to kill them :\

But Im not sure if the RD would like it to be that hot...

There are strains that survive at temps up to at least 96 F but the life cycle at temps above 86 F is less than a week, this allows the salt to kill 5the motile stage. Red devils tolerate salt very well, right up to light brackish levels, and will easily accept the 2 tsp/gallon level needed. Most wide bodied cichlids are fairly salt tolerant.

Yes, they can take the heat too. Crank it up to ~87F (gradually of course) and add the salt (also gradually) and the RD will be fine. I have done this method with mine and they had no problems with it.

Burt:)

I had it at 82 degrees and all the spots are gone, and hes happier than ever. Thanks for your help, now if I ever get it again I know I can use the salt methoud. Thanks again

DO YOU BREED YOUR OWN FEEDER GUPPYS?
IF NOT YOU SHOULD ISOLATE ALL FEEDER FISH FOR AT LEAST 2 WEEKS.
THEY COULD BE THE CAUSE OF THE ICH OUTBREAK.......

be careful of feeder guppies.. if your raising your own that is one thing ..if you are buying from LFS then it introduces so many parasites .. better to get your RD off live foods and his health will improve greatly..

My Rd loves heat, when it gets 80 or above he thrashes about wiggling and darting just having a blast
