Re convict fish

They may be non native to your part of the state but other than that their a great fish. My preferred bait for catfish honestly. They stay alive for quite a long time on the hook
I think they are native but not a 100% on that. And sadly can't use them as bait here (even tho we do still lol). We use em for bass and snapping turtles. I use a few day old birds for catfish. I'll catch 2-2.5 ft channel cats on starlings. Just leave the bird in a shopping bag out in the sun for a few days and the cats love it. I can also catch flathead cats on bar soap.

We had 4 specie of bass, LM, SM, Spotted, Striped, and White Bass, but the white bass were predatory on trout and (IIRC) Fish & Game wiped them all out by draining and restocking lakes. No wonder a fishing licemse is $50 now.

Unfortunately I think they wiped out the Kokanee salmon. I've only caught one myself, and that about 20 years ago.

Pretty sure it's illegal here to release fish except "catch and release".
Yeah I don't know if it was legal or not but I did it anyways. Always made sure it went back to the lake I caught it from.
And yeah our gfp here stocked the majority of our lakes with rainbow trout but they weren't smart about it. They would either put them in just before winter as fingerlings or they would just dump them right off of the dock so they would either die during winter or get caught up by everyone going fishing because the trout never felt like exploring the rest of the lake. So we only have a couple lakes here where they ended up being successful while the rest just died out.

Jeez that's expensive for a license, ours here is only $35 and I thought that was expensive. I know a couple lakes around here had to be restocked about 3 years ago when we had a massive algea bloom. It killed off about 80% of all fish we had. Nobody was able to fish those 2 lakes for the year after it got restocked.
