Yup but he kind of did that on the 1st or 2nd page.Yes it is, but it should be made clear it's not ideal and definitely not used as a excuse to justify such stocking. Or used as an example to someone asking the stocking question.
Jaws this thread isn't about me nor you, it's about Oscar care.Yup but he kind of did that on the 1st or 2nd page.
At the end of the day we all hopefully try our best.
If i kept the same exact fish with the same exact decor as stanzzz but kept them in a 420 does that become the gold standard ? Maybe then i get to call him and idiot or butthole.
Its not about us but we both stepped into the ring. Unless im breaching tos nothing wrong with calling b.s to the high horse crap. I asked you how do you know your fish are happy.... you dont thats the point your doing your best and by your estimation its working. Go back and read viktors post. Sums it up perfectly.Jaws this thread isn't about me nor you, it's about Oscar care.
The advice by the op was crap and he was pulled up on it. End of story.
This always happens in these debates.
What if this fish had this tank? , what if this fish had clean water? what if this fish had a big tank and no stimulation? What if this fish had huge filters? What if this fish got bludgeoned by a Chinese lesbian?
Who cares, we can't save all the world's fishes but we can try to give good advice to the point at hand.
Very valid points, there isn't any scientific evidence on what fish to tank size ratio is best for them. All we can do is use a educated guess for the species we keep. For oscars I think thats a tank that's big enough to give them enough cover in the scape while allowing them realistic turning and swimming space. Anecdotally I think anything less then 1lbs per 40 gal will stop a cichlid from reaching its full potential.Yup but he kind of did that on the 1st or 2nd page.

Exactly.
Nothing wrong in keeping big fish thats never been the point.
Keeping an oscar in a 55 for 15 years, different story altogether.
And all this mfk og crap is hilarious.
Exactly that. Well said.Yep, nobody here is saying a 55g can't be used as a starter/grow out tank for a juvenile Oscar, but to keep it in such that sized tank for 15 years is undefendable in any rational debate, even if it did 'survive' all those years -- I think RD's prison cell picture says it all frankly.
And yes some might have responded strongly to the initial claim about a 55g being ok long-term -- I feel kinda sorry for the guy who try defending it and got fried and then quickly changed his tune -- but I feel even sorrier his fish had to "live" 15 years in such a small home. I think the intention of those who responded strongly was to nip that malpractice in the bud before somebody even younger comes along and takes it as good practice.
