Re-homed 3 convict fry

Well today I decided to live by the seat of my pants. I removed about 30 of my cons' current clutch, and was planning on feeding them to my firemouth. I opened the lid and my firemouth, whom is very skittish, automatically went into hiding. So I thought that if he seen some little fish swimming around, he would come out. So little by little, I netted the fry from my bucket and dumped them in. As soon as they hit the water, my tiger barbs devoured them! They probably ate about 20 9 day old fry!

So I had about 10 left, and my tiger barbs were looking pretty full. I decided to throw the rest of the fry in my 6.6 gallon with my 3- 1 month old con fry. Well, they took a bit longer, but they did eat them.

My con couple probably has around 20 fry left. It is so entertaining watching a fish's predatory instincts emerge!

My convict fry are 49 days old. I have 3 of them I saved, and are growing out in my 6.6 gallon. But 1 of them is absolutely ruthless! He single-handedly bodybagged my betta! The other 2 would hide, but the one would chase him and nip his fins. Whenever I feed them, he hogs all the food for himself and chases away the other 2 con fry. I am going to give the other 2 to some worker at Petco, but I’m definitely saving this one, he's one hell of a scrapper! I can't wait to see how he grows up!

nice! my friend's convicts bred but theyre around a month old and still are less than 1cm in length. theyre like 4mm long and still hover around the parents in a 30 gallon. maybe they didnt grow as fast because the tank is pretty small

Thanks matt. I am looking to get rid of my firemouth, as I feel he is too big for my 20 long. Plus, I feel no attachment as he almost always darts in his cave when he sees me. Then I will put my rainbow shark back in with my breeding cons. The lil convict will then be roommates with 5 tiger barbs in a 20 long. I can't wait to watch this guy grow! This is the first fish I had from fry.
