Re-seal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'll get pics in a little bit but it's still a little dirty I soaked it in vinegar and baking soda water and scraped it with a razor but it could still be cleaner.

I just resealed a 50 gallon. You want to make sure you do your resealing in a cool, dry place (I did it in my basement next to a dehumidifier). Otherwise the silicone will take much longer to cure, and may not even cure properly.

-First, while full, I marked where the leaks were coming from with a permanent marker. Very generally, like from here to here.
-Then I completely drained it, and wiped out all the excess moisture.
-I started with a utility knife, and ended using a bent coathanger to really dig down and clear out all the bad silicone around the leaks.
-cleaned out all the bits of silicone with a shop vac (took several attempts to get it all) and then wiped down the inside with vinegar, and then with a dry cloth.
-I used GE silicone I. I started with a small amount of silicone and made sure to force it deep down into the cracks. Then I recut the tube to a broader angle and laid down a bead around the whole bottom of the tank.
-It says 24 hours on the tube, but I gave it a solid 48 hours to cure.

fill it up and hope for the best
