Very much south..
As spokne with DBjunkie in the Ray forum, in the thread "Reactor ", i am planning to use a glas cube linked to my sump to act as reactor.

I enclose a couple of pix to give a general idea ( cube is presently set up for a small fish )

My idea is to fill the cube with K1 and have the K 1 " boiling" and the water returning by gravity to the sump. Sumps return to tank chamber.

The cubes drain hole is rather small, so any strong pump sending water to the cube will cause the latter to overflow.

What is another way to have the K1 boiling in the cube without the tisk of airflow?

Would a strong airstone do the trick or does it need to ne pump driven?

Any other thoughts?

Am i completely off the mark?

Thank you for any advise or opinion

I see no reason this couldn't work. IF I was doing it, I'd have a baffle cut to install a few inches from the bulkhead that is the drain. That baffle would basically seal off the drain from the rest of the cube except for an inch or so space at the bottom. Cover that space with screen and you should pull water from the bottom and the media should stay boiling in the higher part of the cube. I'd use as large of an airstone as possible in there. Also use the water that feeds the cube to help boil the media by putting it a few inches above the water level.

You could also make a "basket" to keep the media in, but I think the baffles would make for a better "flow".

Thanks Db!

Could also just add airstones, throw a "t" on that bulkhead, run the drain to the bottom of the tank with a strainer on it, throw some media in there and see what happens!

On second thought, instead of a baffle, you could just glue a piece of glass in the corner where the drain is! I bet a single powerhead or circulation pump (korilia) placed on that baffle would blow any media away from the slit at the bottom where it would pull water in from. That gets my vote! Throw some bubble disks in there and should be good to go!

Will star working on that very shortly.

Ordered 30 litres of K1 from Spain :)

That 30 liters working properly should support almost 50lbs of fish without any other bio. :)

What strenght of circulation pump would you put in the cube, DB?
Does the mdeia need to violently revolve and boil, or is it enough to have it slqly circling around?

It should boil pretty aggressively. But this can be done with air. I would just use as big of pump as the drain will allow. When I initially set up my reactors they were only seeing 500 gph.

As far as the circulation in there, I'd just use a small korilia type pump, but you may get it going throw some air to it and it might work fine. The circulation pump might even mess things up. Only way to know is to experiment. I never had much luck using pumps to blow media around, but I've never been able to get a good view of whats going on in my reactors either.

Awesome concept. DB you've already pointed out the beauty of the Wlim stuff to me, do you per chance have a thread you could point me to to read up on reactors? lol

Go check the REACTOR THREAD IN RAYS, if you want to get your head spinning...
