Reactor Question

You can also use a product like nitra-gaurd bio cubes in the reactor, that will take your nitrates to close to 0, you will need to remove the biomass (detritus) that builds up as a result.

don't u need air bubble inside the reactor for the nitra-guard bio cube? how long do they last if they break down to detritus?

I run it inside a reactor without O2 I think the flowrate in the reactor is high enough, my nitrate levels are fown to around 5ppm, it lasts around 5-6 months, the biomass is formed once it starts working after around 2 weeks

mybe ima give it a try with this. I tried de nitrate / matrix it doesn't do anything so ima give it a try on this. how long do u clean up the biomass? 5-6 month?

NOTHING REMOVES ENOUGH NITRATE TO BE WORTH IT/OFFSET WATER CHANGES.

I've found that only PURIGEN "HELPS" but that's merely by absorbing/adsorbing nitrogenous waste BEFORE it is broken down by nitrosomas bacteria----->converting to NITRATE

Water changes are STILL UNFORTUNATELY our only TRUE weapon, unless you want to play with a denitrator(aquaripure, etc....)

I will be honest.... I AM considering an aquaripure to test on one of my 40B basement "grow-out" tanks, but the prices are SOOOOO RIDICULOUS, and I travel quite a bit for work. I just can't say I'd trust my wife to PROPERLY maintain/feed it in my absence....

I have also been looking into the nitra-guard bio cubes, but cant find where to buy them.

My other concern with them is that at least with REEF/FOWLER, as long as I have an efficient SKIMMER (I still have 3 HOB skimmers for my saltwater tank which I HAVE NOT set back up...YET), I know the effluent is getting exported.

With FRESHWATER however, how the heck am i supposed to EXPORT/get it out? I can't seem to get a good explanation. As we all know, protein skimmers DO NOT WORK PROPERLY/EFFICIENTLY IN FRESHWATER...

I do water change every one week but my nitrate never go down to 0ppm always at 10-20 ppm. I don't know If I'm doing something wrong. My AMMONIA is at .25 ppm. Nitrite at 0ppm

Interesting stuff, could only find one vender on ebay.
Probably a salt water product. I ran a sugar fed denitrator on fresh water,
If you can isolate it in a container, and if it will work in a 2 gallon "bucket" with a 30 gallon per day effluent. Steady stream. Drip.
A 50 micron, filter sock, and a 10"x 10" filter floss pad with catch most of the excess bacteria.
I used a coffee filter strainer doubled up, It would last about a week.

You can remove the biomass, or effluent, as you call it with filter floss, I used a wad of it on the return from the reactor, and a hob filter filled with only floss. You need to change or wash it twice a week
