which substarte should i go with?

  • Light colored pool filter sand

I like the smaller gravel myself, mine is similar to the pea gravel that Pete recommends.
But it isn't from Caribsea. Doesn't tend to float or blow all over when the rays bolt or
bury themselves like sand does. And it is small/easy enough for the rays to still bury.

Yup, this is what I like about the fine gravel.
 
If you like a white/tan colored substrate,but don't want the problems of sand-you can also use another product by Caribsea called Torpedo Beach(soft belly safe) I have this in my 600 gal. ray tank...& love it!!
 
It looks OK, kinda wish i would have done the fine gravel thing, like petelockwood or cool mbu have... Oh well in a few months when i am tired of this i will switch out again.

Looks good! What kind/brand of sand did you go with? The brown rays should lighten up too.
