When I first started in this hobby, I did the plants and decor and everything was all neat and pretty. And sure with platy's that worked fine...but as I got more tanks and more fish....and bigger fish, the more I realized they have an opinion about my decorating style lol.
I only sparsly decorate my tanks just for this reason. I have huge rocks in my tank that can't be knocked over even if they dig under them and I don't stack rocks on each other because if you do that then they can fall into the glass and scratch it. I just use a few very large rocks, some driftwood and some floating plastic plants.
im right on board with u cichlid savage. my mayan cichlid is the worst aquascaper ever. i wanna put him in a 10 gallon and carry him over to the computer and make him read teh aquascaping section with me. im tempted to resort to large pebbles as a substrate so that there to big for him to move
I have sand and rocks and i also gave up on trying to stack my rocks perfectly just to the next day find rocks all crooked becuase some cichlid decided to dig a crator in the sand under the rocks. I also use to have this one blood parrot that would grab a leaf of the plant and just go WEEEEeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! and pull it all over the tank.
