They are not the same.
For starters they are in different tanks.
Secondly their country of origin are different.
Their sizes are different. Real Altums grow much bigger than the Peruvians. Real Altums also are brownish in body/stripe colors and their bars are more uneven. Scalares have more silvery body coloration and their bars darker and not as uneven. The spots also tend to predominate in different parts of their bodies.
Both types of fish share some common traits like the pre-dorsal notch out front (i.e. their snouts are concave) and high/tall bodies. It's easeir to tell the difference when you have both in front of you in tanks instead of pictures.
You are welcome to drive over to Miami to see the difference or find someone in your slice of paradise who has both.
