Real Books Vers Electronic Books

I agree with the OP. Real books are so much better. Of course, I only really read zoological desk references and field guides because I'm a bit of a nerd hahaha

Reading on the electronic devices doesn't even come close to the good feeling of reading a real book for me. It feels like Im doing work, at work, because I have to. I spend enough time on my laptop as it is, a real book blows the other away for me.

I would make this a vote thread but I hate those poll things, I just want to know how many of you are falling into this electronic trap.

Real or electronic? Spit it out.
I don't like e-books. I still buy the real books that I like, fiction stories, novels, dictionaries, magazines...:D

I've spent a lot of time staring at the pc screen even at work so I prefer real books as a relief back into reality.

I just saw a mention on the news that Borders is set to shut down a large number of stores in this area as part of a bankruptcy plan.Books seem to be less popular than ever probably due the net and these new devices coming out.

Great. People these days are so lazy to lift a real book and take the time to read.

Well that's not good, I love that store. A home library full of books beats an ugly electronic device anyday.

Yeah, hope they are not targeting the ones that I frequent.I spend a good bit of time in the one that is near the movie theater that I go to.If I'm a little early for the movie,I'm at Borders.

Borders - well it's an opportunity to stock up on some books, I did the same with movies and Games with the Blockbuster closings. Im okay with the digital books, but nothing compares to an actual book. Especially after staring at a computer screen half the day. Actual books have a different experience to them...the dexterity of it, the smell...I rather take a book out than a kindle.

Pulling out an old Buffy quote, but one that I fully agree with -

"Smell is the most powerful trigger to the memory there is. A certain flower or a whiff of smoke can bring up experiences long forgotten. Books smell... musty and rich. The knowledge gained from a computer is... it has no texture, no context. It's there and then it's gone. If it's to last, then the getting of knowledge should be tangible. It should be, um... smelly."

I went to one of those big book stores last week they had a great selection of CDs hard to find classic rock bands that I love. Anyway the area was about 1/4 the size and the woman said it is because everybody downloads now and sales were way off. I'm not 16 I don't want to friggin down load music. I don't want an e-book I want a real book and I don't want an i-anything either. Even cell phones are out of controll I don't text don't need the internet or GPS on my phone........I'm a dinosaur. Let's all get e-fish!

I prefer actual books. It's just a good feeling to hold a book in your hands, read it so that it becomes worn, lending it to friends and getting it back a little more worn, makes it feel more personal, somehow. Plus, I love seeing all the shelves of books I have. All my bookworm friends think it's great.
