Real nice Cubans!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes the red is really bright, sadly it's not seen in the pics taken by me as I am useless at taking pictures.

They are currently housed in a 80 gallon tank as I had to downsize quite a bit as I am moving shortly. When the move is done they will get a 180 minimum.

Really glad you like them. Thanks everybody :headbang2

By the way, I've seen somewhere that the max size of Nandopsis Tetracanthus is somewhere around 14". But I've never seen any that are bigger then mine. Does anybody know how large they really get?

Great looking pair. They can get bigger than yours (I have seen 12-13" males and I owned a female that got to 10" or so). It's possible that all the breeding yours are doing has slowed (or halted) their growth. But they look fabulous. :)

Another note on the size... All the tetracanthus you see in the hobby these days are FAR removed from wild caught fish. No F1's or F2's - they are many generations away from that. This could explain the smaller size of adult fish you are now seeing. Having some wild caughts introduced would probably invigorate the blood line and generate some larger adults. Sadly, for political reasons, Cuba is not exactly an ideal location for fish collecting, so it's doubtful we'll see wild caught tetracanthus or haitiensis anytime soon.

Those are very nice! First time i liked a fish with a hump on its head!

Cheers mate

You are probably right that the constant breeding slows down the growth. But on the other hand they only about 16 months old so hopefully they'll have some growing still to come. Would like mine to get real large. And once I get them in the bigger tank they will have even more room for growing.

But I'm happy as it is now, cause I have the nicest Tetracanthus I've ever seen. :headbang2

very nice I hope my babies get that big mine also have some nice coloration
But mine are only about 4 inches max right now had them about 3 months :)

Damn dude, I was hoping you were talking about the cigars
