real plants in turtle tank?

What species? Many won't touch plants, especially when their preferred foods are provided enough to keep them from getting hungry. Others will eat them very quickly. It is not bad to have live plants for them to forage on when they want, just know that they will.

I've always had aquatic plants in with my water turtles. Anachris is very hardy, common plant and a good choice to use.

I use anacharis for mine just keep some in another tank for it to grow.....

i have 2 yellow bellied and a red eared slider. red ear about an inch, other about inch and a half. im new to aquatic plants as well. what kind of substrate would i need to use for them to flourish?

If want to give them something TO eat, give them elodea or a similar pond plant. Our red-ears, painteds, stinkpots, etc at the nature center nibble on them between feedings.

I can't tell you of plants they WONT eat though, there might not be any! lol

Elodea and Anacharis are one in the same. ;)

It's cheap too, just throw it in your turtle tank. Make sure it has access to light and it will grow like crazy. Just thin it out when it gets out of hand or if it starts to get pretty nasty looking, go buy some more! Most pet stores and garden centers that sell pond supplies carry it.

if you have any sort of painted when their an adult say bye to plants mine are only 4 inches or less and the eat anything plant that was ever in the tank...most RES and what not will do the same...
