When I put the aquaclear ammonia remover bags in my tank, then I tested for ammonia 3 hours later. Will the results say the ammonia is high still even though it isnt? I remember I read that somewhere.

I'm not an expert on the subject, but honestly, I don't think they work that fast. The test should tell you the correct ammonia levels, which should be decreasing.

WHY do you have ammonia in the tank to begin with?

You are thinking of an ammonia neutralizing product like Prime... Prime converts ammonia into ammonium (much less toxic form)... when you test with a kit like API, the test actually ups the ph of the water to like 14 for the test... this releases the ammonia that was in the form of ammonium and gives you a false positive.

But you shouldn't have ammonia in your tank if it's properly cycled... if it's not cycled, an ammonia removing product like ammo chips will only screw with your cycle.

exactly what i thought.

I've been having problems with my tank pretty much from day one. I know right now it was never properly cycled. So I always had a high amount of ammonia no matter what I did. So I figured I would try these ammonia removers. Now, I had two fish in there, my arowana showed ammonia burns and fin rot so I got a large tub, filled it with water and put a heater in there. I then put the arowana in the tub yesterday. Today he died :(. Was this because it was to stressful for him (I put stresscoat in there yesterday) and/or because there was no filtration unit in there?? I realize that I need to take my clownknive out of the tank for it to properly cycle. Should I put the clownknive in the same tub the arowana was in?? Or could I put him in my 10gallon which is cycled, he's 10inches long. Thanks.
