real vs fake

I too prefer the natural look. An added bonus to live plants are their ability to suck up nutrients that allow algae to grow.

i'm a naturalist and my wife likes fake but both tanks look good, everybody has their own preference's. :D

real plants are much cooler, but they do require a certain amont of care and some of the fake plants look so real that i would go with fake if you dont have alot of money for chemicals, but then again real plants act as a natural filter for your water...so you decide

I just bought a 75 gallon for some natives and I am going to try some live plants. I think they would look better in my setup. I am going to have to do some more research first though.

i'm a planted tank freak my show tank was planted completly and thriveing but having a recent problem with hith in my tank i stripped it down and added some fake floating plants so i could keep the substrate clean the hith is healing remarkable fast i'm liking the ease of cleaning now and it looks good its easy to make a natuarl looking tank with fake plants and wood

Ok, well here's my take on the matter. When you start out in this hobby, the initial thought is to go fake. I think the validation behind it is that if you go real and the plant dies, b/c you don't know what you're doing then you'd be outta the money. Fake never dies. As you progress, however, and get up to the third or fourth tank, you begin looking around and thinking :WTF: this is so unnatural! Majority of people on this site take the aquarium pretty damn serious! I have a 55 with S.A. Cichlids and the fake aquarium gravel. I used to have a castle in it. Gone. Im about to take all the "gravel" out and get some real stuff, like from the local streams. Natural is definetly the way to go. Its a shame that for most people it takes them 3 or 4 tanks to finally realize this!
